Sequel is your guide from initial concept through construction administration!
We bring a lot of home remodeling and rehabilitation experience to the table, and we know how to quickly get to actionable advice. After walking through the home with you and your Realtor, we write up individualized observations, recommendations, and budget projections in a report.
This report is usually 10-12 pages, specifically tuned to answer key questions that come up during the walkthrough. The intent is to map out a path to get you from where the home currently is to where you envision it working best for you and your family. This can include aesthetic updates, functional changes, systems work, physical improvements, and even furnishing.
We also leverage our expertise in the process to identify potential hurdles (what to watch out for) and unknowns.
Budget projections are based on years of data, looking at similar projects to give you a sense of what to expect when contractors are engaged to do the work.
Many contractors offer “free” bidding and some even offer “free” design. It’s important to recognize that these are not actually free. The cost is just buried in their overhead expense. When Sequel consults on planning and works with you to develop a project strategy or custom design, you are investing in unbiased expert guidance.
Your home inspection is intended to identify concerns with existing conditions, repair and maintenance items that can affect the home’s stability and value. Sequel’s role is helping to answer the “So now what?” question. We guide the vision, helping you understand your home’s potential and how you can make it uniquely yours.
We believe so. What are you actually investing in? At the early stages, Sequel’s role is to give you unbiased information to make good decisions about vision, phasing, scope, and design potential.
For projects that move into full design services, the value comes in the uniqueness of the design (we’re not salespeople), thoroughness of documentation so you can compare apples-to-apples bids, and backup during construction so you are confident that it is being implemented in line with the design intent.
We want to make the right decisions in the right order starting with answering your big-picture questions, addressing early concerns and defining your underlying goals.
Each project is unique, but generally speaking we try to work through the process sequentially from planning/visioning to design, selections, and documentation… followed by construction. As the project moves forward, we engage with the team to verify that the contractor knows exactly what to build before they are in your home swinging hammers.
Sequel’s owner/architect has more than 25 years of experience in design, renovation, and building evaluation. He is a licensed architect in Iowa and Minnesota. Both of our interior designers have more than 10 years experience and are NCIDQ certified.
But the “professional” credentials are only part of what makes us unique. Practically speaking, we have developed our expertise through real world application on more than 500 full renovation projects from powder rooms through multi-million dollar whole-house remodels. We leverage this experience to guide our clients with actionable early advising and creative, thorough design services .
